วิสัยทัศน์ของ Google ที่มีต่อแผนที่ยังคงต้องการให้คำตอบที่ตรงกับคำถามของผู้ใช้ให้มากที่สุดเท่าที่จะทำได้ เช่น   ‘ฉันอยู่ที่ไหน’ และ ‘รอบๆ ตัวฉันมีอะไรบ้าง’ เป็นต้น Google แผนที่ ได้ช่วยคุณวางแผนเส้นทางการเดินทาง ทิศทางและสำรวจบริเวณรอบๆ ตัว ด้วยภาพระดับมุมมองถนน ในขณะที่ฟีเจอร์ ‘ตำแหน่งของฉัน’ ก็ช่วยไม่ให้คุณหลงทาง ด้วยการระบุตำแหน่งที่คุณอยู่ในเวลานั้น

วันนี้เรานำ Google แผนที่ ในประเทศไทยไปอีกระดับหนึ่งด้วยความภูมิใจที่จะประกาศว่าเราได้จัดทำแผนที่ภายในอาคารหลายๆ แห่งในกรุงเทพมหานครให้คุณได้ใช้งานแล้ว

เมื่อคุณอยู่ในสถานที่ท่องเที่ยวหรือห้างสรรพสินค้าไหนก็ตาม โดยปกติแล้วคุณจะรู้ว่าคุณยืนอยู่ตรงไหนก็ต้องมองหาป้ายบอกตำแหน่งหรือ directory ที่มีสัญลักษณ์ ‘คุณอยู่ที่นี่’ หรือถามเจ้าหน้าที่หรือพนักงานที่อยู่แถวๆ นั้นให้ช่วยบอก  แต่ตอนนี้ถ้าคุณไปที่อาคารบางแห่งในประเทศไทย ป้ายระบุตำแหน่งพวกนั้นย้ายมาอยู่ในมือคุณแล้ว ช่วยคุณระบุตำแหน่ง ระบุชั้นที่คุณอยู่ และเส้นทางที่คุณจะไปภายในอาคาร

ในช่วงแรกนี้เราร่วมมือกับเจ้าของสถานที่ 6 องค์กร เพื่อนำเสนอภายในอาคารรวม 34 แห่งด้วยกัน อาทิ เทอร์มินัล 21 เซ็นทรัลเวิลด์  สยามพารากอน  สยามดิสคัฟเวอรี่เซ็นเตอร์  และดิเอ็มโพเรียม เป็นต้น ชมวิดีโอสาธิตการใช้งานได้ที่นี่ http://youtu.be/Gy-DI_bWElg

สำหรับผู้ใช้อุปกรณ์แอนดรอยด์ที่ดาวน์โหลด Google แผนที่เวอร์ชันล่าสุดแล้ว แผนผังของชั้นในอาคารนั้น จะปรากฎซูมเข้าไปที่แผนที่ จุดสีฟ้าที่คุ้นตาจะบอกตำแหน่งที่คุณอยู่และเมื่อคุณเลื่อนขึ้นหรือลงชั้นต่างๆ ภาพที่ปรากฎจะเปลี่ยนไปตามที่คุณเลือก ข้อมูลที่ปรากฎต่อคุณนี้เป็นวิธีการคล้ายๆ กับฟีเจอร์ ‘ตำแหน่งของฉัน’ เมื่ออยู่ภายนอกอาคารสถานที่โดยได้รับการปรับแต่งให้ใช้กับภายในอาคาร

คุณสามารถเลือกดูรายการสถานที่ที่ร่วมโครงการได้ไปที่ศูนย์ความช่วยเหลือและนี่เป็นแค่จุดเริ่มต้น เราจะเพิ่มแผนที่ภายในอาคารสาธารณะใหม่ๆ ทั่วประเทศอย่างต่อเนื่อง ซึ่งเจ้าของอาคารทุกแห่งสามารถอัปโหลดแผนที่ของตัวเองได้บน Google แผนที่ด้วยตัวเองได้เช่นกัน

A new dimension: Google now mapping indoors in Thailand
Google’s vision for maps has always been to provide our users with as much information as possible so they can answer fundamental questions like, ‘Where am I?’ and ‘What’s around me?’ Google Maps already allows you to plan a route, get directions and explore many neighbourhoods with street-level imagery, while the ‘My location’ feature can show you where you are on a map to stop you getting lost.
Today, we’re taking Google Maps in Thailand to another level: we’re delighted to announce that we’re now able to show indoor maps for a number of locations.
When you’re inside a tourist attraction or retail store, a common way to figure out where you are is to look for a freestanding map directory with a ‘You Are Here’ sign, or ask an employee for help. But for a number of places in Thailand, that directory is now brought to the palm of your hands, helping you determine where you are, what floor you're on, and where to go indoors.
We’ve initially partnered with 6 organisations representing 34 venues including Terminal 21, Central World, Siam Paragon, Siam Discovery and The Emporium. Watch a demo here: http://youtu.be/Gy-DI_bWElg
For Android users who have downloaded the lastest version of Google Maps, detailed floor plans will automatically appear when you’re viewing the map and zoomed in on a building where indoor map data is available. The familiar “blue dot” icon indicates your location within several meters, and when you move up or down a level in a building with multiple floors, the interface will automatically update to display which floor you’re on. All this is achieved by using an approach similar to that of ‘My Location’ for outdoor spaces, but fine tuned for indoors.

To see a selected list of participating locations, please visit our help center. And this is just the start--we’ll continually add new indoor maps to public buildings throughout the country. In fact, any building owner can upload their maps on to Google by themselves.
